Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has received a vote of confidence from club record signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, who is sorry he cannot play this week’s Europa League clash with AC Milan.
New fan favourite Aubameyang was on target for the second home game running as he scored in the 3-0 win over Watford in the Premier League on Sunday.
And the striker, a £56million signing for Borussia Dortmund in January, said he was delighted to repay Wenger’s faith in him so quickly.
He said: “Of course I am really happy because I am here because of him.
“He had the interest in me so I am happy to play for him.”
The Gabon striker is ineligible for Thursday’s AC Milan clash at the Emirates Stadium due to his European involvement with former club Dortmund earlier this season.
He is likely to be replaced in attack by Danny Welbeck, as Alexandre Lacazette will not be fit again until after the international break.
Auba added: “I am really frustrated because the rules are a bit… I don’t know how to say in English, but I am disappointed because I can’t help my team.
“That’s life. I have to deal with it.”
The forward is also concerned the break in matches will have a negative impact on his ability to settle in the Premier League.
He explained: “When I was in Dortmund, I was playing every three days but now I play once a week or have a long time between games. It is not easy.”
