The US singer took to her Demi Lovato Instagram page to post a statement to her 70.7 million fans after a suspected heroin overdose.
She wrote: “I have always been transparent about my journey with addiction.
“What I’ve learned is that this illness is not something that disappears or fades with time.
“It is something I must continue to overcome and have not done yet.”
The star continued: “I want to thank God for keeping me alive and well.
“To my fans, I am forever grateful for all your love and support through this past week and beyond. Your positive thoughts and prayers have helped be navigate through this difficult time.”
Demi also thanked her family, team and hospital staff for being by her side.
She added: “Without them I wouldn’t be here writing this letter to all of you.”
The brunette said she now needs time to heal and focus on her “sobriety and road to recovery.”
She concluded: “The love you have all shown me will never be forgotten and I look forward to the day where I can say I came out on the other side.
“I will keep fighting.”
Fans instantly began flooding the post with well-wishes.
One gushed: “We love you Demi! thank you God for keeping this amazing soul on earth.”
While another added: “Stay strong baby.”
