Noel Edmonds cancer comments have landed the Deal or No Deal presenter in very hot water on Twitter.
The presenting stalwart has become known in recent years for being very outspoken on a range of topics – such as his call to scrap TV licences – and he has landed himself in the firing line once more.
In 2016, he posted a controversial tweet in response to a cancer patient – he said that the disease was caused by a “negative attitude”.
At the time, Noel clashed with Phillip Schofield on This Morning after revealing his medicine to battle prostate cancer was little more than a yoga mat and positive mindset.
He also said being a victim of fraud, which led him to attempt suicide after his business was destroyed, left him with “negative forces” that “impacted on my health”.
And Noel was standing by his comments yesterday when he appeared on the Victoria Derbyshire programme.
Victoria Derbyshire who has survived breast cancer asked Noel if he “regretted“ telling the Twitter user: “Scientific fact: disease is caused by negative energy.“
Noel had then asked the Twitter user: “Is it possible your ill health is caused by your negative attitude?“
Noel revealed to Victoria that he did not regret “at all“ the comments he made.
He explained to her: “I regret the fact that he didn’t answer the question.“
“If you are faced with a serious illness you have to come at it with a positive mental attitude.
“It changed the outcome and millions of doctors and millions of scientists will tell you that.“
Victoria, 49, then pressed Noel, 69, further and said that it might have been viewed as “horrible“ to ask a cancer survivor that question, but Noel retorted that his actions were “perfectly reasonable“.
Victoria also asked Noel whether he believed that “all cancers“ could be caused as a result of a negative disposition, to which Noel answered they couldn’t.
She then asked if he could suggest which cancers were caused by a negative attitude to which Noel replied: “I don’t know, I’m not a doctor.“
Victoria concluded: “Exactly.“
Twitter users came out in their droves to comment on Noel’s shocking comments.
One social networker said: “Have always admired the very wonderful @VictoriaLIVE particularly her bravery in sharing her own cancer journey. But her quiet restraint in the face of these appalling statements by Noel Edmonds deserves a medal.“
A second Twitter user fumed: “As a cancer survivor, who lost their father to cancer too, I’m appalled to learn that Noel Edmonds is an unrepentant, victim-blaming, snake oil salesman.“
While a third added: “Noel Edmonds comments regarding negative energy contributing to cancer have riled me. The most positive people can suffer and die of cancer, whilst the most negative of individuals can go through life as fit as a fiddle. Cancer is not fair.“
Some people had a more objective approach, with one viewer tweeting: “Noel Edmonds, you might not agree with his views, but he is entitled to them.”
While another was Team Noel, stating: “I agree with Noel Edmonds that negative energy is precedent in illness and depression.
“I’m full of negative energy and can’t shake it! I spend 95% of every day shut away in my bedroom! My choice to try and escape the world.”
