Two-time Olympic champion Nicola Adams has retired from boxing over fears she could lose her sight.The Briton, 37, became the first female Olympic champion when she won gold at London 2012, retaining her flyweight title at Rio 2016.She turned professional in 2017 and is the WBO world flyweight champion. "I've been advised that any further impact to my eye would most likely lead to irreparable damage and permanent vision loss," said Adams.In an announcement to the Yorkshire Evening Post, she added: "I'm immensely honoured to have represented our country - to win double Olympic gold medals and then the WBO championship belt is a dream come true… But it's not without taking its toll on my body."

Oct. 18 (UPI) -- The Green Bay Packers will play without star wide receiver Davante Adams once again in Sunday's game against the Oakland Raiders. Adams, who has missed the Packers' last two games, was ruled out for Sunday's matchup due to a turf toe injury, according to the team's official injury report released Friday. The two-time Pro Bowl wideout sustained the injury during the team's Week 4 contest against the Philadelphia Eagles. He was hurt after making a reception in the fourth quarter and hasn't returned to the field since. In four games this season, Adams has recorded 25 catches for 378 yards. Oct. 1 (UPI) -- The Houston Texans signed veteran safety Mike Adams, who recently worked out for the team, to a contract, the club announced Tuesday. The Texans waived tight end Jerell Adams in a corresponding roster move, according to the team. Houston also signed safety Jonathan Owens to the practice squad and released offensive tackle Christian DiLauro and safety Austin Exford from the practice squad. Adams, who turned 38 in March, started all 32 regular-season games for the Carolina Panthers across the last two seasons after joining the franchise in 2017. Ryan Adams has cancelled his upcoming tour of the UK and Ireland, in the wake of allegations of sexual misconduct by the star.Nine dates, including two at London's Royal Albert Hall, have been scrapped. Several fans had already sought refunds, saying they could no longer support the artist."Full refunds to ticket purchasers will be processed by end of day on Monday," said Ticketmaster in a tweet announcing the news.
