The Cranberries lead singer Dolores O'Riordan has died suddenly at the age of 46, her publicist has confirmed.The Irish musician, originally from Limerick, led the band to international success in the 90s with singles including Linger and Zombie.A statement from her publicist said: "The lead singer with the Irish band The Cranberries was in London for a short recording session. "No further details are available at this time."A Metropolitan Police spokesperson said the police were called to a hotel in Park Lane at 09:05 GMT on Monday, where "a woman in her mid-40s" was pronounced dead at the scene. US astronaut John Young, who flew to the moon twice and commanded the first ever space shuttle mission, has died aged 87, Nasa said."Today, Nasa and the world have lost a pioneer," agency chief Robert Lightfoot said in a statement. Young was the only person to have flown missions on the Gemini, Apollo and space shuttle programmes.He also once famously smuggled a corned beef sandwich on to a space flight as a gift for a fellow astronaut.Young retired in 2004 after a 42-year career. US astronaut Paul Weitz, who helped save a Nasa space station after it was damaged during launch, has died aged 85.Mr Weitz, who died at a retirement home in Flagstaff, Arizona, also served as the first commander of the space shuttle Challenger.He was a naval aviator before joining Nasa in 1966.He was the pilot on the first mission to Skylab, the US space station which orbited Earth from 1973 to 1979.The orbiting laboratory had been launched without crew on 14 May 1973. But a shield to protect the station from collisions with small meteorites had torn loose during lift-off.
