Nov. 7 (UPI) -- Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg declined an invitation to testify before British and Canadian lawmakers about the social media giant's data privacy. Facebook's head of U.K. public policy Rebecca Stimson and head of Canada public policy Kevin Chan, responded to the request by British Member of Parliament Damian Collins and Canadian Member of Parliament Bob Zimmer in a letter released Wednesday, informing the lawmakers it isn't possible for Zuckerberg "to be available to all Parliaments." Aug. 23 (UPI) -- The CW has announced that Tyler Hoechlin will reprise his role as Superman in its upcoming DC crossover event between Arrow, The Flash and Supergirl. Hoechlin, who has portrayed the Man of Steel on Supergirl, will be seen with Superman's love interest Lois Lane. The network is currently casting for the iconic role as Lois Lane will be making her first appearance in The CW's shared DC television universe known as the Arrowverse. A new working paper by Jan De Loecker of the University of Leuven and Jan Eeckhout of University College London presents evidence that this is happening across the rich world.The researchers examine markups—selling prices divided by production costs. At 1, products are sold at cost; above 1, there is a gross profit. Using the financial statements of 70,000 firms in 134 countries, the authors find average markups rose from 1.1 in 1980 to 1.6 in 2016.America and Europe saw the biggest increases (see chart).
