Dec. 9 (UPI) -- Israel received its first shipment of Pfizer's COVID-19 vaccine Wednesday, a few weeks before the country expects to begin inoculations. More than 100,000 doses arrived on a DHL flight from Brussels at Tel Aviv's Ben-Gurion Airport. Israel expects to receive another half million doses over the next few days and about a million more next week, The Jerusalem Post reported. Advertisement Health Ministry Director-General Chezy Levy told facilities to prepare to receive the the vaccinations on Dec. 20, with inoculations set to begin about a week later. It's unclear exactly when Israel will begin giving people the vaccine. April 3 (UPI) -- The San Francisco 49ers signed veteran wide receiver Travis Benjamin and offensive lineman Tom Compton, the team announced Friday. Both Benjamin and Compton inked one-year deals, according to the team. The 49ers didn't disclose financial terms of the agreements. Benjamin, who is entering his ninth season in the NFL, spent the past four years with the Los Angeles Chargers. He recorded six receptions for 30 yards in five games last season before being placed on injured reserve with a thigh injury. The Cleveland Browns selected Benjamin in the fourth round of the 2012 NFL Draft out of Miami. He played four seasons in Cleveland before signing with the Chargers in free agency. Feb. 17 (UPI) -- Israeli Prime Minisister Benjamin Netanyahu appointed Israel Katz as the country's acting foreign minister Sunday. Katz, who is Israel's intelligence and transportation minister, issued a statement on Twitter, expressing his gratitude to Netanyahu for appointing him as foreign minister two months after he announced he would give up the position in government. "I thank the prime minister for the trust, and I am pleased to head the ministry. We will continue to promote and lead Israel's foreign policy to further achievements, alongside the prime minister," Katz wrote.
