March 1 (UPI) -- Boeing Co. has received a $ 428 million contract to support long-lead material and activities for 16 P-8A aircraft for three countries. The contract, announced Thursday by the Department of Defense, calls for six planes to be built for the U.S. Navy, as well as four for New Zealand's armed forces and six for South Korea. The aircraft is the U.S. Navy's next-generation maritime surveillance aircraft. Up to 117 P-8As are expected to be purchased by the Navy to replace its fleet of 196 P-3C Orion maritime patrol aircraft, now approaching the end of their operational lives. The majority of the work will be performed at Boeing's Seattle facility, with work expected to conclude by June 2020. Feb. 28 (UPI) -- During the Australian International Airshow, Boeing unveiled its newest unmanned drone, the Boeing Airpower Teaming System. The system was viewed Wednesday by Australian Defense Minister Christopher Pyne at Avalon Airport in Victoria, Australia, 25 miles north of Melbourne. The first flight is planned for 2020, according to Boeing in a news release. The Loyal Wingman project had been secretive but the Australian Broadcasting Corporation reported the drone is designed to carry bombs, in addition to carrying out electronic warfare and reconnaissance missions. The company said the system, roughly the size of a traditional jet fighter, is the company's largest investment in an unmanned aircraft program outside the United States. Boeing contracted for maintenance on Qatari AH-64E Apache helicopters

Dec. 27 (UPI) -- The Army has contracted Boeing to conduct maintenance on the Qatari air force's AH-64E helicopters. The roughly $ 49.2 million deal will fund services conducted by a Maintenance Augmentation Team, the Defense Department said Wednesday. The full $ 49.2 million will be obligated at the time of the award using the Army's fiscal 2018 operations and maintenance funds. The Defense Department expects work to conclude by July 2024. The AH-64Es, also known as Apaches, are helicopters that typically carry AGM-114 Hellfire missiles and Hydra 70 rocket pods. They have four blades and are rotary-winged. Let's block ads! (Why?) Dec. 21 (UPI) -- Boeing Sikorsky Aircraft Support has been awarded a $ 1.1 billion contract for support of the Little Bird, Chinook and Seahawk helicopters of the U.S. Special Operations Command. The contract, announced Thursday by the Department of Defense, covers life cycle contractor support for the MH-6, MH-47 and MH-60 helicopters over a seven-year ordering period. The contract will become active on Jan. 1, 2019, with the first task order under the contract becoming effective. Boeing Sikorsky will provide support program management, field service representatives, sustaining engineering and spare and repair parts. Boeing Sikorsky, a joint venture of Boeing Aerospace and Sikorsky, has been obligated $ 32.8 million at the time of award from fiscal 2019 operations and maintenance funds. ...
