Browns' rookie class becoming fixtures on honor roll

The Cleveland Browns have not exactly distinguished themselves in the NFL Draft since the team moved back to the shores of Lake Erie in 1999. Given the team's revolving door at quarterback since taking Tim Couch with the No. 1 overall pick in 1999 speaks to the team's futility of building through the draft. However, times they are a changin' for the Browns, who can make a strong case for having this year's strongest rookie class through the first quarter of the season. Granted, Cleveland had two of the top four picks in this year's NFL Draft and used them to take Heisman Trophy winner Baker Mayfield at No. 1 overall and cornerback Denzel Ward with the fourth pick. Mayfield became the franchise's 30th starting quarterback since 1999 when he made his first start in Week 3, and Ward has...

Cleveland Browns' Joel Bitonio settling in at left tackle

Joel Bitonio, who has started 47 games in four seasons at left guard for the Cleveland Browns, said he is getting more comfortable at his new position -- left tackle. Bitonio made his first start at left tackle in the team's preseason opener after being moved to the position earlier this month. He is the replacement for Joe Thomas, a 10-time Pro Bowl player and future Hall of Famer who retired in March. "I am getting there," Bitonio said Monday. "You finally play in a game and it starts to become more of a reality. Practice is practice. I am getting there. I think that every day I get a little more comfortable. I feel more comfortable in my stance, position in the huddle and things like that. It is getting there." The Browns beat the New York Giants 20-10 last Thursday. "I only playe...

Cleveland Browns' trades stunned NFL teams

From not being able to properly file paperwork to consummate a trade in October to making three trades in a matter of just hours, the Cleveland Browns left many in the NFL with their heads spinning. The same team that has won only one game in two years and flubbed finalizing a trade for Cincinnati quarterback AJ McCarron at the trade deadline pulled off three deals in a matter of a few hours on Friday. According to NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk, Friday's trades "stunned others who had been negotiating potential moves with the Browns." First, Cleveland acquired wide receiver Jarvis Landry from the Miami Dolphins for the relatively cheap price of two mid-round draft picks: one this year and one in 2019. Then, the Browns dealt the 65th pick in this year's draft to the Buffalo Bills for starti...
