Nov. 8 (UPI) -- The remains of a U.S. Navy sailor killed in action during Japan's surprise attack on the U.S. naval base at Pearl Harbor was laid to rest in Guam on Thursday. Steward Mate 1st Class Ignacio Camacho Farfan's recently identified remains were returned to the island of Guam where he was born and raised before he joined the Navy at age 19 in 1939. He was interred at the Guam Veterans Cemetery at Piti. "Petty Officer Farfan, this veteran's cemetery will welcome you home today to your final resting place, carried on the arms of your Navy brothers and sisters, your coffin swathed in an American flag, escorted by the descendents of your family's bloodline, surrounded today by an entire community," Rear Adm. The Latest on the powerful earthquake in northern Japan (all times local): 4 p.m. The Hokkaido prefectural government says at least four people have been confirmed dead on the island struck by a powerful quake. The magnitude 6.7 earthquake struck southern part of Japan's northernmost main island early Thursday. Hokkaido officials said three other people were found without vital signs when they were dug up from landslides in the worst-hit Atsuma town near the epicenter. Officials said more than 30 people were unaccounted for and feared buried underneath landslides in Atsuma. More than 290 other people were injured. A man who claimed on a TV series that he helped burn and bury the remains of a missing Alabama teen in Aruba has died after police say he was stabbed with his own knife during a foiled kidnapping of a woman in Florida. John Christopher Ludwick tried to kidnap a woman Wednesday as she exited her driveway in North Port. Ludwick and the woman knew each other, said a police spokesman in North Port, a small city south of the Tampa Bay area. "They were roommates at one point. He apparently became kind of infatuated with her. She was doing everything in her power to distance herself from him," spokesman Josh Taylor said.
