34 children attending Bible camp found dead as toll cross 1,200 in Indonesia

The death toll from a devastating earthquake and tsunami has soared again on Tuesday as officials in Indonesia said over 1,200 have died. The bodies of at least 34 children have been discovered inside a church in a remote northern region of the Indonesian island of Sulawesi following Friday’s devastating magnitude-7.4 earthquake and ensuing tsunami, a spokesperson for the Indonesian Red Cross told reporters. The discovery was the latest heartbreak in an excruciating recovery effort that is just beginning to get underway as the death toll climbs. To date, at least 1,234 people have died in the catastrophe, but a local report has described scenes of widespread tragedy, with "bodies everywhere." The children were apparently attending a Christian bible camp when they were killed, Red...

MERSEYSIDE BOUND Digne looks set to become Marco Silva's second signing as Everton manager Everton are reportedly on the verge of completing a deal to sign Barcelona defender Lucas Digne. The French international has been with the Barca squad for their pre-season tour of the USA and was an unused substitute in their penalty shootout win over Tottenham. Digne has 21 France appearances to his name but his lack or first-team football at Barca meant he missed out on a place in the squad at the World Cup However, the LaLiga champions have confirmed the left-back has been granted permission to return to Spain in order to finalise the transfer. They tweeted: “Lucas Digne travels today [Sunday] to Barcelona with the club’s permission to f...

Green Bay Packers camp setup: Healthy Aaron Rodgers a must

DE PERE, Wisc. -- In every way imaginable, the Green Bay Packers went backward in 2017. Green Bay failed to reach the postseason for the first time since 2008. The Packers' 7-9 record was the second worst of Mike McCarthy's 12 seasons as head coach. And after reaching the NFC Championship Game in both 2014 and 2016, the Packers were eliminated from the playoffs by mid-December. Green Bay could be poised for a bounce-back season, though. The Packers return nine starters on each side of the ball and addressed several positions of weakness in free agency. Most important, though, quarterback Aaron Rodgers returns after missing nearly 10 full games last season with a broken collarbone. At the end of the Packers' offseason program, McCarthy called it "one of our best offseasons, just as f...

Chicago Bears GM 'optimistic' first-round pick Roquan Smith will be in camp

Chicago Bears first-round draft pick Roquan Smith has yet to report to training camp, but general manager Ryan Pace believes that is about to change in the near future. "We're optimistic he's here soon," Pace told reporters Thursday, noting details in Smith's contract were the reason for the hold up. "There's a process and meanwhile we're moving forward." Pace did not set a timetable for Smith to report, per the Chicago Sun-Times. Smith, an inside linebacker who was the eighth overall pick of the 2018 NFL Draft, did not report with rookies on Monday and continued to be absent as veterans came to Olivet Nazarene University on Thursday in Bourbonnais, Ill. The 6-foot-1, 236-pound Smith helped lead Georgia to the national championship game last season, winning the Butkus Award as the t...

The Kansas City Chiefs reached an agreement to continue holding training camp at Missouri Western State University. The deal, announced by the club on Thursday, assures the Chiefs will hold camp in 2018 in St. Joseph, Mo. It also included an option for a one-year extension for 2019. "We have been engaged in positive, constructive discussions with Missouri Western State University representatives for months and are pleased to reach this agreement to keep Chiefs Training Camp in St. Joseph," Chiefs president Mark Donovan said. "When we moved training camp back to the state of Missouri in 2010, we could not have imagined the reception and support that Missouri Western and the entire community have provided us. "It's an exciting time in Chiefs Kingdom and we look forward to returning to St. Jo...
