Stephen Curry carries Warriors into meeting with Knicks

Sports
NEW YORK -- After one of the most stunning performances of his brilliant career -- a 51-point night on 15-of-24 shooting, 11-of-16 from 3-point range and 10-of-10 from the free-throw line -- what can Stephen Curry possibly do for an encore? That remains to be seen, but one thing is for sure: There is no place better for an encore than Madison Square Garden, to which Curry's Warriors travel for a Friday night marquee matchup with the New York Knicks. Curry only needed three quarters to do his damage in a 144-122 home win over the Washington Wizards. The Knicks needed all four quarters to manage just 87 points in a 23-point loss to Miami on Wednesday, connecting on just 12-of-33 3-pointers. Curry had one fewer in 17 fewer attempts. "I don't even know how to describe what I witnessed to...

Watch: Jay Ajayi carries Philadelphia Eagles to win vs. Atlanta Falcons

Sports
Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Jay Ajayi was the star of a game lacking offensive fireworks, helping the Eagles beat the Atlanta Falcons 18-12 to open the season on Thursday in Philadelphia. The Eagles running back capped off the effort with an 11-yard touchdown run with 2:25 remaining to give his team a 16-12 advantage. He followed the scoring scamper with two-point conversion run. Ajayi finished the game with 62 yards and two scores on 15 carries. Atlanta took the initial lead in the rematch of a January NFC Divisional round playoff bout. Matt Bryant made that possible with a 21-yard field goal in the first quarter. Eagles kicker Jake Elliott responded with a 26-yard field goal in the second quarter to tie the score at 3-3. Bryant earned the lead back for the Falcons with a 52-yard field goal with 2:...

The UK has conducted a "major offensive cyber-campaign" against the Islamic State group, the director of the intelligence agency GCHQ has revealed. The operation hindered the group's ability to co-ordinate attacks and suppressed their propaganda, former MI5 agent Jeremy Fleming said. It is the first time the UK has systematically degraded an adversary's online efforts in a military campaign.Mr Fleming made the remarks in his first public speech as GCHQ director."The outcomes of these operations are wide ranging," he told the Cyber UK conference in Manchester."In 2017 there were times when Daesh found it almost impossible to spread their hate online, to use their normal channels to spread their rhetoric, or trust their publications."Mr Fleming said the cyber-operations had disrupted the grou...

Rocket lights sky as it carries satellites from California

Technology
A reused SpaceX rocket carried 10 satellites into orbit from California on Friday, leaving behind a trail of mystery and wonder as it soared into space. The Falcon 9 booster lifted off from coastal Vandenberg Air Force Base, carrying the latest batch of satellites for Iridium Communications. The launch in the setting sun created a shining, billowing streak that was widely seen throughout Southern California and as far away as Phoenix. Calls came in to TV stations as far afield as San Diego, more than 200 miles south of the launch site. Cars stopped on freeways in Los Angeles so drivers and passengers could take pictures and video. The Los Angeles Fire Department issued an advisory that the "mysterious light in the sky" was from the rocket launch. Jimmy Golen, a sports writer for The Assoc...

Kevin Durant's triple-double carries Golden State Warriors to victory

Sports
CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- It was originally supposed to be Stephen Curry's night. But instead, the night clearly belonged to Kevin Durant. With Curry and Draymond Green sidelined with injuries, Durant stepped into the spotlight and led the Golden State Warriors to a 101-87 victory over the Charlotte Hornets Wednesday night at the Spectrum Center. Durant notched his ninth career triple-double, finishing with 35 points, 11 rebounds and 10 assists and seemingly taking the game into his own hands whenever he wished. He scored 16 points in the first quarter to set the tone as the Warriors led by as many as 26 in the first half. Durant said it was a matter of everyone stepping up as Charlotte native Curry was out with a sprained ankle and Green was a late scratch with a sore shoulder. The Warriors also...
