Boston Celtics return to friendly confines after dropping two in Cleveland

Sports
Home Sweet Home. The words the Celtics have lived by in this year's NBA playoffs. Now Boston has the value of the parquet, the banners and the wild home fans with the Eastern Conference finals matchup with the Cleveland Cavaliers down to a best-of-three. The Celtics have gone 9-0 at home in these playoffs and won 10 in a row at home dating back to the regular season. For the year, they are 36-14 at home, a .720 winning percentage. Just as they had done in the opening series with the Milwaukee Bucks, the Celtics won the first two games at home and then lost two in a row on the road, where they have just one victory in the playoffs. They then won 5 and 7 at home and lost 6 at Milwaukee. And just like that series, Boston doesn't have to win a road game to advance. "I think our focus i...

Cleveland Browns sign second-rounder Austin Corbett, two more draft picks

Sports
The Cleveland Browns signed three players taken in this year's NFL Draft, the team announced Sunday. The Browns signed offensive lineman Austin Corbett, a second-round choice out of Nevada, and sixth-round selections Damion Ratley and Simeon Thomas. Corbett was Cleveland's first pick (33rd overall) in the second round of the draft. He saw action at both tackle spots for Nevada, starting the final 48 games of his college career. The 6-foot-4, 305-pound Corbett was a first-team All-Mountain West Conference selection as a senior, starting all 12 games. Ratley, who played opposite wideout Christian Kirk -- a second-round pick of the Los Angeles Rams -- at Texas A&M, had 30 receptions and six touchdowns while appearing in all 12 games last season. The 6-foot-3, 190-pounder averaged 23.1 yar...
Cleveland Browns' trades stunned NFL teams

Cleveland Browns' trades stunned NFL teams

Sports
From not being able to properly file paperwork to consummate a trade in October to making three trades in a matter of just hours, the Cleveland Browns left many in the NFL with their heads spinning. The same team that has won only one game in two years and flubbed finalizing a trade for Cincinnati quarterback AJ McCarron at the trade deadline pulled off three deals in a matter of a few hours on Friday. According to NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk, Friday's trades "stunned others who had been negotiating potential moves with the Browns." First, Cleveland acquired wide receiver Jarvis Landry from the Miami Dolphins for the relatively cheap price of two mid-round draft picks: one this year and one in 2019. Then, the Browns dealt the 65th pick in this year's draft to the Buffalo Bills for starti...
Vintage Vince Carter leads Sacramento Kings past Cleveland Cavaliers

Vintage Vince Carter leads Sacramento Kings past Cleveland Cavaliers

Sports
Call it the Vince Carter Game. That's how Sacramento fans will remember his 24-point performance Wednesday in the Kings' improbable 109-95 win over the Cleveland Cavaliers. It undoubtedly wasn't the first time the 40-year-old guard has taken over a game in his 19-year career -- but it was his first with the Kings. Carter, who missed the team's previous three games -- two by coach's decision and one as a result of rib pain -- received multiple standing ovations from the Golden 1 Center crowd. He finished 10 of 12 from the field and had big-time shots to answer almost every time Cleveland tried to cut into the lead. Carter had seven points and two key assists in the fourth quarter as Sacramento held off a Cavs team that took its first back-to-back losses since snapping a four-game skid on No...

Cleveland Browns wrap up No. 1 draft pick — again

Sports
The Cleveland Browns, mired in an 0-15 season, secured the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft for the second year in a row with their 20-3 loss to the Chicago Bears on Sunday. The Browns, who finished 1-15 last season, are the first franchise to pick No. 1 overall in consecutive drafts since Cleveland picked first in 1999 (when the Browns returned to the NFL) and 2000. Cleveland also has the dubious distinction of being the first NFL team with multiple seasons with at least 15 losses. "Honestly, I could care less about the No. 1 overall pick," Browns coach Hue Jackson said Sunday when asked during the postgame press conference about having the top pick again. "I'm more so (concerned) about that locker room. Those guys fight their tail off for me. They work hard. They do everything I ask. ...
