Nov. 6 (UPI) -- U.S. Marines at Camp Kinser at Okinawa, Japan, are performing specialized checks of 3rd Maintenance Battalion equipment, a statement on Friday said. The battalion's 3rd Marine Logistics Group, an element of the Marine Depot Maintenance Command, left its home base at Logistics Base Albany, Ga., in October and was deployed to Okinawa to conduct calibration tests in support of the Fleet Marine Force. Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi deployed the country's elite Counter-Terrorism Service on Sunday in response to nationwide protests. The forces said the move was meant to control violent protests centered in Baghdad and Nasiriya that began on Friday opposing corruption and calling for a reform of the country's political system. "Counter-Terrorism Service forces have been deployed in some areas of Baghdad to protect state buildings from undisciplined elements taking advantage of security forces being busy with protecting protests and protesters," the forces said in a statement. May 22 (UPI) -- The aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan and its commander task force units began underway operations in the Indo-Pacific region, the Navy announced on Wednesday. The carrier left its home port of Yokosuka Naval Base, Japan, in its first deployment of 2019. Sailors wore their dress whites and lined the flight deck as it left port. The carrier is traveling with CTF 70, which has tactical control of carrier strike groups, cruisers, and destroyers that deploy or transit through the U.S. 7th Fleet area of operations. There is typically an unannounced submarine presence as well. March 19 (UPI) -- The U.S. Air Force deployed six B-52 bombers to Europe last week for training flights over the continent. In an announcement Monday, the Air Force said the aircraft were conducting a training mission that's part of a coordinated effort across U.S. European Command, U.S. Indo-Pacific Command and U.S. Strategic Command. The deployment of the aircraft also included more than 450 airmen who first arrived at Royal Air Force base Fairford in Great Britain, NATO said in a news release last week. The U.S. has made similar deployments of its strategic bombers to Europe at least once annually since 2014, NATO said. March 4 (UPI) -- The U.S. military has deployed its most advanced missile defense system to Israel as part of a joint exercise between the two allies. In a statement Monday, the United States European Command said the deployment of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) system was done at the direction of acting U.S. Secretary of Defense Patrick Shanahan as a sign of the United State's commitment to Israel's regional security.
