A Black man who was wrongfully arrested when facial recognition technology mistakenly identified him as a suspected shoplifter wants Detroit police to apologize — and to end their use of the controversial technology. The complaint by Robert Williams is a rare challenge from someone who not only experienced an erroneous face recognition hit, but was able to discover that it was responsible for his subsequent legal troubles. The Wednesday complaint filed on Williams' behalf alleges that his Michigan driver license photo — kept in a statewide image repository — was incorrectly flagged as a likely match to a shoplifting suspect. Dec. 2 (UPI) -- The Detroit Lions placed rookie tight end T.J. Hockenson on season-ending injured reserve with a right ankle injury, the team announced Monday. Hockenson sustained the ankle injury during the fourth quarter of the Lions' loss to the Chicago Bears on Thanksgiving Day. He was taken to the locker room following the injury and didn't return to the contest. Lions head coach Matt Patricia said he doesn't know yet whether Hockenson will require surgery. Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Detroit Lions linebacker Jarrad Davis exited Friday's preseason game against the Buffalo Bills with an ankle injury. League sources told ESPN and NFL Media that Davis will undergo an MRI on Saturday to confirm the severity of the injury. Davis sustained the injury in the first quarter of Friday night's contest against the Bills. He had his right leg rolled up on by teammate Devon Kennard on the Bills' first offensive possession. Davis fell to the ground and grabbed at his right leg after a run by Bills running back LeSean McCoy.
