Media playback is unsupported on your device Ray Galton OBE, one of the "fathers and creators of British sitcom", has died aged 88.In their 1950s-70s heyday he and co-writer Alan Simpson created classics such as Hancock's Half Hour and Steptoe and Son.In 2016, he and Simpson were awarded Bafta's highest honour, the Fellowship.The scriptwriter died on Friday night after a "long and heartbreaking battle with dementia", his family said in a statement."Ray passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family."His manager Tessa Le Bars said: "I have had the great honour of working with Ray for over 50 years and for the last 40 as his manager and friend."With his lifelong co-writer, the late Alan Simpson, they were regarded as the fathers and creators o...

Singer Marty Balin, the co-founder of US psychedelic rock band Jefferson Airplane, has died while being taken to a hospital in Tampa, Florida. The 76-year-old's cause of death was not disclosed by his family and publicist.Jefferson Airplane defined the 1960s San Francisco Sound - a mix of blues, folk, rock and jazz, and the musical expression of the emerging hippie lifestyle.Jefferson Starship, the splinter band formed in 1974 that Balin was also in for a number of years, paid tribute to their former bandmate on Facebook.It said: "With heavy hearts, we learn today of the passing of Marty Balin."He was a true talent and inspiration to many. Dudley Sutton died today aged 85, after an extended stay in a hospice.His Lovejoy co-star  Chris Jury confirmed the news to fans on Twitter, writing: "My dear, dear pal. Dudley Sutton died today."I loved him dearly. Hollywood legend Burt Reynolds has died aged 82. A spokesman for Reynolds said the star died in Jupiter, Florida, on Thursday morning after suffering a heart attack.Reynolds was known for starring in films including The Longest Yard, Boogie Nights and Smokey And The Bandit.The actor had suffered with heart problems for years and underwent heart surgery in February 2010.He was nominated for an Oscar for best supporting actor his role as adult film director Jack Horner in Boogie Nights in 1997.Reynolds reportedly turned down the roles of Han Solo in Star Wars and John McClane in Die Hard, later saying he was more interested in enjoying himself than pushing his acting career to new heights.
