April 13 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin was awarded a contract from the U.S. Navy for continued repair service support on the USS Fitzgerald and to deliver five upgraded systems for ballistic missile defense.The deal, announced Thursday by the Department of Defense, is valued at more than $ 68.5 million under the terms of a firm-fixed price contract, which is a modification to a previous award.The agreement enables Lockheed Martin to provide additional support in the restoration of the USS Fitzgerald, a guided missile destroyer that collided with a container ship offshore Japan in June 2017. March 9 (UPI) -- Huntington Ingalls was awarded a contract from the U.S. Navy to continue repairs on the USS Fitzgerald.The deal, announced Thursday by the Department of Defense, is valued at more than $ 77.5 million under the terms of a cost-plus-fixed-fee contract, which is a modification to a previous award.The modified contract between the U.S. Navy and Huntington Ingalls enables the company to continue emergent repair and restoration, in additional to, collision repairs, maintenance and modernization of the USS Fitzgerald, the Pentagon said in a press release.The USS Fitzgerald is a guided missile destroyer that collided with a container ship offshore Japan in June 2017 that left seven U.S. sailors dead.Work will occur in Pascagoula, Miss., and is expected to be complete by January 20...

Aug. 25 (UPI) -- The Navy's Military Sealift Command announced Friday that it has awarded a $ 3.1 million contract to Patriot Shipping for the heavy-lift transfer of the USS Fitzgerald back to the United States.The Fitzgerald will be moved from the naval base at Yokosuka, Japan, to the Huntington Ingalls shipyard in Pascagoula, Miss., where it will be repaired and refurbished. The transfer is slated to be completed by November.The USS Fitzgerald was involved in a collision with a Philippine-flagged commercial cargo ship on June 17 that killed seven U.S. sailors and inflicted severe damage to the starboard side of the ship.Retired Vice Adm.
