Tropical Storm Beta forms in the Gulf of Mexico, shattering records

Sept. 17 (UPI) -- After churning out Tropical Storm Wilfred and Subtropical Storm Alpha, the hyperactive Atlantic continues to generate more named storms with the formation of Tropical Storm Beta. Forming Friday afternoon, Beta had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph, and forecasters warn there is potential for the system to intensify into a hurricane while over the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Advertisement The Atlantic once again became hyperactive on Friday with four tropical cyclones churning at once. Just on Monday, there were five tropical cyclones spinning simultaneously for the first time since Sept. 10-12, 1971. That number dropped to four Tuesday after Rene dissipated, leaving Paulette, Sally, Teddy and Vicky for a time. As of 4 p.m. CDT Friday, Major Hurricane Teddy, Tropic...

Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Tropical Storm Vicky in the Atlantic Ocean has grown stronger than expected, forecasters said early Tuesday while maintaining that the system is to weaken over the next few days. In a 2 a.m. CVT advisory, the National Hurricane Center said Vicky was located 455 miles west-northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands. It had maximum sustained winds of 50 mph and was moving northwest at 7 mph. Advertisement Vicky, which had previously been known as tropical depression 21, is the 20th tropical storm of the 2020 season and set a new early record for a "V" named storm. It was formed off the western coastline of Africa and strengthened into a tropical storm on Monday. The NHC said it expects Vicky to dissipate by mid-week. NEW DELHI: Income tax payers will soon get pre-filled ITR forms that will make the process of filing returns easier, Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) Chairman Sushil Chandra has said. The tax department is working on the pre-filled income tax return (ITR) forms which would be based on tax deducted at source (TDS) details filed with the department by the employer or any other entity. "You will be getting a pre-filled return form on which we are working because your TDS is with us. So, we are moving towards that direction. "We want to make it (processing of return form) very fast, maybe in a day or a week. That system is also under preparation and it may take a year or so. So that you get a pre-filled form, and you can justify that form is correct. We will accept it," Chandra said. He sa...

Two different forms of water isolated for first time

Science
Scientists have isolated the two different forms of water molecule for the first time.Water molecules were known to exist as two distinct "isomers", or types, based on their slightly different properties at the atomic level.By separating out the two isomers, researchers were able to show that they behave differently in the way that they undergo chemical reactions. The work appears in Nature Communications. In basic terms, water molecules consist of a single oxygen atom bonded to a pair of hydrogen atoms. However, they can be further subdivided based on a property of the nuclei at the hearts of the hydrogen atoms - their "spin".While they aren't spinning in the sense we would understand, this property of hydrogen nuclei does affect t...
