Oct. 1 (UPI) -- The Houston Texans signed veteran safety Mike Adams, who recently worked out for the team, to a contract, the club announced Tuesday. The Texans waived tight end Jerell Adams in a corresponding roster move, according to the team. Houston also signed safety Jonathan Owens to the practice squad and released offensive tackle Christian DiLauro and safety Austin Exford from the practice squad. Adams, who turned 38 in March, started all 32 regular-season games for the Carolina Panthers across the last two seasons after joining the franchise in 2017. Adams, a two-time Pro Bowl selection with the Indianapolis Colts, entered the league with the San Francisco 49ers in 2004 as an undrafted free agent out of Delaware. June 18 (UPI) -- Houston Astros second baseman Jose Altuve could be back playing with the team as early as Wednesday after an extended stint on the injured list. Astros manager A.J. Hinch said Wednesday that Altuve will join the team in Cincinnati for their final game against the Reds. The team will assess Altuve to see if he is healthy enough to play in the finale of the series against the Reds or if he needs more time to heal from his left hamstring injury. "There's a chance he is activated as soon as tomorrow, which would be great for our team, both morale-wise and production-wise," Hinch told MLB Network Radio on Tuesday. April 29 (UPI) -- Houston Texans star receiver DeAndre Hopkins' mother, Sabrina Greenlee, will have her life story told in a new movie. BRON Studios has partnered with Good Fear and Kituufu Films to develop and produce a feature-length film titled "Sabrina," which will tell the story of Hopkins' mom, according to Variety. "My mom has always put everyone before herself and sacrificed things unimaginable," Hopkins said. "Now it's time for people to see her true value and learn that giving up is not an option." March 5 (UPI) -- The Houston Texans released cornerback Kevin Johnson, the team announced Tuesday. The Texans selected Johnson in the first round of the 2015 NFL Draft, but the team decided to move on from the defensive back. Houston originally picked up the fifth-year option on Johnson's rookie contract, but opted to cut him instead of paying the $ 9.06 million option in 2019. Johnson suffered two concussions and was out for the season after one game last year. His salary for 2019 is guaranteed only for injury.
