NFL Draft: Dolphins prioritize game film, weigh injury history

April 16 (UPI) -- Miami Dolphins general manager Chris Grier said the team will prioritize the game film of prospects over what they did at the combine and in other settings when it considers selections for the 2020 NFL Draft. "We have an idea of who we like," Grier said. "But again, we want to make sure we have all the information. We have medical meetings coming up in the next couple of days." The Dolphins are one of the most well-stocked NFL teams ahead for total selections. Miami has the Nos. 5,. 18 and 26 picks in the first round, as well as two second-round selections and nine picks from the third through seventh rounds. Girl hit by foul ball at Astros game has permanent brain injury

Jan. 8 (UPI) -- A girl hit by a foul ball at a Houston Astros game in May has permanent brain damage, her attorney said. The 2-year-old girl was hit in the head by the ball off the bat of Chicago Cubs outfielder Albert Almora Jr. on May 29 at Minute Maid Park in Houston. She suffered a seizure and sustained a fractured skull as a result of the incident. She also had subdural bleeding, brain contusions, brain edema and brain activity issues, her attorney said. "She has an injury to a part of the brain, and it is permanent," attorney Richard Mithoff told the Houston Chronicle. "She remains subject to seizures and is on medication and will be, perhaps, for the rest of her life." The girl remains in treatment for the brain injuries. Doctors have not determined if she has cognitive deficits....

Dec. 8 (UPI) -- Washington Redskins running back Derrius Guice was forced out of Sunday's game against the Green Bay Packers because of another knee injury. League sources told ESPN and NFL Media that Guice will undergo an MRI Monday to determine the severity of the injury. According to NFL Media, the second-year tailback is believed to have suffered an MCL sprain. Guice sustained the knee injury after a 23-yard run in the second quarter. Packers safety Darnell Savage hit him in the legs as Guice fell to the ground. Guice remained down on the field as the team's medical staff attended to him. Nov. 30 (UPI) -- British-American singer and performer John Barrowman canceled some of his British Christmas tour shows Saturday due to a "severe neck injury." Barrowman, 52, who has starred in the British-science fiction television shows Doctor Who and Torchwood, announced on Instagram he would not be able to make at least the first two dates of his eight-date "Fabulous Christmas Tour." The tour was scheduled to start at the Bristol Hippodrome on Saturday. The shows have been designed to celebrate the Christmas season, along with Barrowman's 30 years performing on stage and screen, and coincide with the release of his new Christmas album of the same name. Nov. 18 (UPI) -- Los Angeles Clippers star forward Kawhi Leonard wasn't in the starting lineup for the third consecutive game Monday night against the Oklahoma City Thunder. League sources told ESPN and the Orange County Register that Leonard suffered a left knee contusion in the second half of the Clippers' 102-93 loss to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday. The All-Star forward also missed games against the New Orleans Pelicans on Thursday and Atlanta Hawks on Saturday. Leonard has missed five of the Clippers' 14 games this season due to load management related to his knee ailment. He has yet to play alongside teammate Paul George, who made his debut with the Clippers on Thursday after missing the start of the 2019-20 campaign while recovering from two off-season shoulder surgeries.
