June 3 (UPI) -- Israel launched air raids over Palestinian positions in the Gaza strip early Sunday morning, the Israeli Defense Force said. Israel's Iron Dome anti-missile system intercepted three rockets that crossed the border from Gaza before the Israeli Air Force retaliated by targeting 15 positions held by Palestinian group Hamas, Haaretz reported. "This was an additional IDF strike carried out last night targeting terror sites belonging to the Hamas terror organization," the IDF said. Gaza's Hamas rulers said Wednesday they had agreed to a cease-fire with Israel to end the largest flare-up of violence between the sides since a 2014 war. Khalil al-Hayya, a senior Hamas official, said Egyptian mediators intervened "after the resistance succeeded in warding off the aggression." Feb. 20 (UPI) -- The United States and Israel successfully tested the Arrow 3 weapons system to defend against ballistic missiles.Israel Aerospace Industries, in collaboration with the Israeli air force and the United States' Missile Defense Agency, conducted the test at 2:30 a.m. Monday at an unidentified site in central Israel, the U.S. Defense Department said in a release.The Israeli Ministry of Defense confirmed the test, posting on Twitter that the exercise "designed to defend against ballistic missile threats outside the atmosphere."Two previous test attempts were called off. Feb. 16 (UPI) -- Lockheed Martin has been awarded a contract for procurement of initial air vehicle spares for F-35 air vehicle deliveries in support of the government of Israel.The deal, announced Friday by the Department of Defense, is valued at $ 13.9 million, the Pentagon said in a press release.The agreement between the Navy and Lockheed Martin taps the company to provide initial air vehicle spares to include endurance spares packages for Israel.Work on the contract will occur in multiple locations within the United States and foreign countries and is expected to be completed in December 2021.The total amount of the contract will be obligated to Lockheed Martin at time of award, which will not expire at the end of the current fiscal year, according to the Pentagon.Let's block ads!
