NBA suspends random marijuana testing for 2020-21 season

Dec. 4 (UPI) -- The NBA and the National Basketball Players Association have reached an agreement to suspend randomized drug tests for marijuana during the 2020-21 season. "Due to the unusual circumstances in conjunction with the pandemic, we have agreed with the NBPA to suspend random testing for marijuana for the 2020-21 season and focus our random testing program on performance-enhancing products and drugs of abuse," NBA spokesperson Mike Bass said in a statement Friday. March 5 (UPI) -- A study published Thursday by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and prevention confirms that at least some people with a vaping-linked lung injury used illicit marijuana products. Researchers at the Wisconsin Department of Health Services report that teens who developed EVALI, or e-cigarette product use-associated lung injury, often obtain vaping cartridges through illicit or informal sources, according to a study published in the CDC's Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. Of the 3,000 or so EVALI cases since last year when the condition emerged across the country, more than 50 were reported in Wisconsin. Cowboys DT Antwaun Woods arrested on marijuana, evidence tampering charges

Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Dallas Cowboys defensive tackle Antwaun Woods was arrested this week and is facing charges for possession of marijuana and tampering with evidence. Woods, 26, was arrested during a traffic stop Tuesday in Frisco, Texas. He was booked into jail and later released. The Frisco Police Department told NFL Network, CBS Dallas Fort Worth and the Dallas Morning News that Woods was charged for possession of marijuana over 2 ounces but less than 4. He also was cited for possession of drug paraphernalia. An officer pulled Woods over after seeing him driving 77 mph in a 60 mph zone. Police said Woods attempted to hide a marijuana cigarette by putting it in a water bottle.
