Jan. 5 (UPI) -- The Minnesota Vikings handed New Orleans another disappointing playoff loss, stunning the Saints 26-20 in overtime during Sunday's NFC wild-card matchup at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Kirk Cousins found tight end Kyle Rudolph in the back of the end zone in overtime for the game-winning touchdown. The Vikings will play the top-seeded San Francisco 49ers on Saturday in the divisional round. It marked the second consecutive time the Saints' season ended in overtime in the Superdome. New Orleans' early exit at the hands of the Vikings came almost a year after the Saints lost in the NFC title game to the Los Angeles Rams. Dec. 5 (UPI) -- Right-handed pitcher Michael Pineda will return to the Minnesota Twins after agreeing to a two-year contract with the club. League sources told ESPN and FOX 9 of Minneapolis that Pineda reached an agreement with the Twins on a two-year, $ 20 million deal. Pineda had 11 wins and a 4.01 ERA over 26 starts with the Twins last season before missing the remainder of the 2019 campaign due to suspension. MLB initially handed the pitcher an 80-game ban after he tested positive for the banned diuretic hydrochlorothiazide, which can mask other banned substances. After an appeal, Pineda had the penalty reduced to 60 games. He will begin the 2020 season serving the remainder of the suspension that started in early September. He has about five weeks of the ban left to serve. In 14 sta...

Matt Carpenter returned to the St. Louis Cardinals' lineup Tuesday night after getting a few days off to regroup. Now, it's Dexter Fowler's turn to get back on track. Fowler is expected back among St. Louis' starting nine Wednesday when the Cardinals wrap up a two-game interleague series with the Minnesota Twins at Target Field in Minneapolis, Minn. The center fielder was expected to be a sparkplug atop St. Louis' lineup this season, but both he and Carpenter got off to the worst offensive starts of their careers. Carpenter was batting .145 and Fowler .146 when the Cardinals arrived in Minneapolis. Carpenter went hitless on Tuesday and his average is down to .140. Fowler went 0-for-6 in St. Louis' 2-1 victory Saturday night and spent nearly an hour in the batting cage after the game, ...
