June 15 (UPI) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin said Russia leads the world in hypersonic weapons research and will have defense systems to counteract opponents' weapons. The United States and China have begun hypersonic missile programs, building nuclear-equipped armaments capable of traveling up to 5,000 mph in a flat trajectory, indicating that defenders have less time to react. May 20 (UPI) -- Morocco will acquire missiles and missile defense systems from the defense industry consortium MBDA France, the Moroccan defense ministry said on Wednesday. Government approval of the contract came after Morocco received a $ 211 million loan in February from the French banking group BNP Paribas. France supplies about 44 percent of Morocco's weapons needs -- the United States supplies most of the rest -- and relations between France and Morocco, a French colony until 1956, have long been cordial. May 7 (UPI) -- Raytheon Missile Systems was awarded a $ 19 million contract modification to exercise options for Navy Rolling Airframe Missile and Guided Missile Launching Systems, according to the Department of Defense. The deal modifies a contract awarded in June 2019 to provide the missile system for the U.S. Navy and the Japanese military, under the Foreign Military Sales program. Under the contract Raytheon will procure material, fabricate parts, aassemble and test RAM MK 49 Mof 5 GMLS and GMLS alteration kits. March 20 (UPI) -- The Navy awarded Raytheon a $ 392.4 million contract modification for production and delivery of tactical missiles for the Air Force, Navy and a variety of foreign governments, the Pentagon announced. The deal modifies an earlier contract, awarded in September 2018, for repair of Air Intercept Missile (AIM)-9X Tactical and Captive Air Training Missiles (CATMs). Under the modification, Raytheon will exercise options for production and delivery of Lot 20 AIM-9X, Block II and Block II Plus tactical missiles, as well as captive air training missiles and captive test missiles as well as associated equipment.
