PHOENIX -- The Christmas Day bombing in downtown Nashville led to phone and data service outages and disruptions over hundreds of miles in the southern U.S., raising new concerns about the vulnerability of U.S. communications.The blast seriously damaged a key AT&T network facility, an important hub that provides local wireless, internet and video service and connects to regional networks. Backup generators went down, which took service out hours after the blast. A fire broke out and forced an evacuation. Aug. 14 (UPI) -- British singer Rumer said Nashville Tears (The Songs of Hugh Prestwood) represents the "culmination" and "encapsulation" of the seven years she spent living in the southern United States. Rumer, whose real name is Sarah Joyce, said the story of Nashville Tears (The Songs of Hugh Prestwood), which is out Friday from label Cooking Vinyl, began when she left London to move to the United States -- first to Los Angeles and then to Arkansas and finally to Macon, Georgia. ‘Nashville Flipped’ star Troy Shafer dead at 38

May 9 (UPI) -- Troy Shafer, the star behind DIY Network's Nashville Flipped, has died at the age of 38. Shafer's death was confirmed by an obituary in the Erie Times-News, a publication from his hometown of Erie, Pa. The television star died unexpectedly on April 28. The cause of death is under investigation by the Erie coroner's office, The Tennessean reported. Nashville Flipped, which ran for two seasons for a total of 17 episodes, featured Shafer remodeling old homes from the 1800s and 1900s. The series was launched in 2016. March 27 (UPI) -- The Nashville Predators signed defenseman Dante Fabbro to a three-year, entry-level contract, the team announced Wednesday. The Predators selected Fabbro with the No. 17 overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft. He could make his professional debut when the Preds visit the Pittsburgh Penguins on Friday night at PPG Paints Arena. Fabbro had 33 points (seven goals, 26 assists) in 38 games during his junior season in 2018-19 with Boston University. He was named a Hockey East second-team All-Star for the second straight year. Jan. 17 (UPI) -- The Winnipeg Jets scored first and didn't look back, defeating the Nashville Predators 5-1 on Thursday night at Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. The Jets (31-14-2) extended their winning streak to four games and increased their Central Division lead over Nashville (28-17-4) to four points following the victory. Jets goaltender Connor Hellebuyck steadied Winnipeg with 37 saves on 38 shots (.974 save percentage). The Predators edged the Jets in shots on goal (38 to 34) but struggled to figure out Hellebuyck.
