CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Significant strides have been made in the past two games for quarterback Cam Newton, who has had regular practice repetitions and parlayed that into huge outings against New England and Detroit. Now comes the next part of the recovery from offseason shoulder surgery. While the Carolina Panthers went light on Newton's workload in the preseason and during the first few weeks of the season, there's no reprieve going into Thursday night's home game against the Philadelphia Eagles. Carolina Panthers sign WR T.J. Graham, waive Charles Johnson

July 25 (UPI) -- The Carolina Panthers have made some changes on their depth chart at wide receiver after signing T.J. Graham and waiving Charles Johnson.Carolina signed Graham on Monday. The 27-year-old was a third round pick by the Buffalo Bills in the 2012 NFL Draft. Graham played two seasons in Buffalo before signing with the New York Jets in 2014. He suited up for the New Orleans Saints in 2015.Graham has 794 yards and four touchdowns on 61 career receptions. He played collegiately at North Carolina State. He played last season for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League. Florida Panthers hire former NHL defenseman Bob Boughner as head coach

The Florida Panthers named Bob Boughner as their head coach on Monday. The former NHL defenseman becomes the 15th coach in the franchise's 24-year history, and its fifth since 2011. "After an exhaustive search, we are pleased to welcome Bob as the new head coach of the Panthers," general manager Dale Tallon said of the 46-year-old Boughner. "He sees the game in a modern way and is eager to work with our young players. "During the interview process, Bob blew us away with his preparation, his passion, knowledge and dedication to the game. We believe that he is the right leader to get our team back to competing towards our goal of winning the Stanley Cup."
