Facebook to promote local news in drive for 'trusted' content

Facebook says it is changing the way its news delivery service works by focusing on local news sources in its drive for "high quality" content."Local news helps us understand the issues that matter in our communities," explained chief executive Mark Zuckerberg on his page on Monday.The update will initially apply to the US before it is rolled out more widely.It comes after Facebook announced that it was making posts from businesses, brands and media less prominent."Starting today, we're going to show more stories from news sources in your local town or city," Mr Zuckerberg said in his post. Nov. 18 (UPI) -- The Miami Dolphins have promoted practice squad running back De'Veon Smith.Miami also waived linebacker Rey Maualuga. The Dolphins announced the moves Saturday.Smith, 23, signed with the Dolphins on May 5 as an undrafted college free agent. The 5 foot 11, 221 pound running back had 35 yards on 12 carries this preseason for the Dolphins. The University of Michigan product had 2,235 yards and 22 touchdowns on 495 carries during his four-year tenure with the Wolverines.Maualuga, 30, entered the NFL as a second round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2009 NFL Draft. The 6 foot 1, 254 pound defender joined the Dolphins on Aug. 19. Maualuga had 23 tackles in six games this season. The Redskins also placed defensive lineman Arthur Jones on the reserve/injured list and waived guard Tyler Catalina.Harris turned 25-years-old on Saturday. The 6 foot 3, 200 pound pass catcher had eight catches for 66 yards in 10 games last season for the Redskins.Banks and Harris have been on the practice squad since the beginning of the 2017 season. Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Tight end Ricky Seals-Jones is now a member of the Arizona Cardinals' 53-man active roster.Arizona announced the move on Monday. The Cardinals released linebacker Philip Wheeler in a corresponding transaction.Seals-Jones, 22, joined the Cardinals in May as an undrafted rookie free agent out of Texas A&M. He participated in the preseason with the team before being cut on Sept. 2. Seals-Jones signed with the Cardinals' practice squad on Sept. 3. The 6-foot-5, 243-pound tight end had 123 catches for 1,442 yards and 10 scores in 34 games at wide receiver for the Aggies.
