The S&P 500 share index, which tracks the 500 biggest public companies in America, has hit a new milestone.The benchmark index on Wednesday marked 3,453 days since its prior low-point, set on 9 March 2009, when the world was reeling from the financial crisis.By many counts, that is the longest run without a fall of 20% or more in index history, a "bull" run in market-jargon.Overall the index has risen almost 325% in the period, lifted by companies such as Apple, Microsoft and Amazon.This year, it is up more than 6%, despite worries about rising inflation, interest rates and trade disputes. A solar plane which can stay aloft for weeks at a time is to be manufactured by Airbus in the UK.The unmanned craft flies high in the atmosphere to avoid commercial air traffic and adverse weather.Known as the Zephyr, its remote-sensing potential has already seen the UK MoD invest, but Airbus also hope to develop the craft as a communications platform.The Zephyr will now begin industrial production in Farnborough, after several years of testing.Named for the Zephyr's late inventor, the newly opened Kelleher facility has the capacity to produce up to 30 of the planes each year.Its inauguration was announced at the 2018 Farnborough Air Show. Dec. 26 (UPI) -- A study has found that human influences have decreased the likelihood of an extreme cold event like the one that took place in China in January 2016.The study -- published in the Bulletin of American Meteorological Society -- sought to determine how human influences have affected the likelihood of a strong cold surge like the one that broke daily minimum temperature records from Jan. 21-25, 2016.The surge caused temperatures to drop by between 50 degrees and 64 degrees, resulting in the lowest temperature recorded since modern meteorological observations started in 1960 amid a warming winter trend in 2015 and 2016.Researchers from the Institute of Atmospheric Physics, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China Meteorological Bureau, Met Office Hadley Centre of U.K., University of ...
