Feb. 28 (UPI) -- The Kansas City Royals are finalizing a multiyear contract extension with third baseman Hunter Dozier. League sources told ESPN and MLB Media on Sunday that Dozier and the Royals are in agreement on a four-year, $ 25 million extension that includes a fifth-year option for $ 10 million. According to the outlets, the deal also contains escalators and bonuses that could max it out at $ 49 million over five years. Feb. 10 (UPI) -- The Boston Red Sox, Kansas City Royals and New York Mets have agreed to a three-way trade that will send outfielder Andrew Benintendi from Boston to Kansas City. League sources told ESPN, MLB Media and The Athletic on Wednesday night that Royals outfield prospect Khalil Lee will head to the Mets, while Royals outfielder Franchy Cordero will go to the Red Sox. The clubs have yet to confirm the deal, which is pending medicals and approvals. Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Veteran first baseman and designated hitter Kendrys Morales announced his retirement from baseball after 13 seasons. "Making the decision was difficult, right? But all things in life come to an end," Morales told ESPN on Friday. "I spent many years, since Cuba, playing baseball, and I gave up a lot of time I would have spent with my family. That is one of the reasons I have decided to retire, to see if I can recover some of that lost time. "Also, Major League Baseball has changed, and maybe veteran ballplayers such as myself are not valued, so this is the right time to make this decision.
