How does the UK’s Eurovision entry stack up against the competition?

James Newman has produced the UK's best Eurovision entry in years - but will that be enough? The 31-year-old, whose younger brother is Brit Award nominee John Newman, has already written for Ed Sheeran, Jess Glynne, Calvin Harris and Little Mix. He got a Brit Award and a Grammy nomination for his work on Rudimental's song Waiting All Night. On the other hand, he co-wrote Ireland's 2017 Eurovision entry, Dying To Try, and got knocked out in the semi-finals.In May, he'll head to Rotterdam as a solo artist with a mid-tempo banger called My Last Breath. It's short and direct, with the sort of "woah-oh" hook that would make Chris Martin envious. "That was definitely intentional," says the singer, who wrote the song in January. "We wan...

Scientists stack elastic circuits to build 3D stretchable electronics

Science
Aug. 13 (UPI) -- Scientists at the University of California, San Diego have built a stretchable electronic patch capable of measuring a variety of biological activities, including respiration, temperature and eye movement, as well as heart and brain activity. Researchers have previously demonstrated the advantages of creating complex electronics by stacking rigid circuits. As part of the latest proof of concept study, scientists stacked flexible circuits. The method allowed researchers to achieve more sophisticated functionality while maintaining flexibility. "Our vision is to make 3D stretchable electronics that are as multifunctional and high-performing as today's rigid electronics," Sheng Xu, a professor of nanoengineering at the UCSD Center for Wearable Sensors, said in a news release...

The Queen of England gets a supreme salary … see how other world leaders stack up

Finance
At 92 years of age, Britain's beloved Queen Elizabeth is in a league of her own when it comes to income. Her earnings add up to 2,660.4 times the per capita GDP of the United Kingdom. Sounds like a lot, but if the queen's salary were equally distributed across Great Britain and Northern Ireland, each citizen would only get £1.16, or $ 1.62 at current exchange rates, apiece.Sources: IG Group, Google/World BankLet's block ads!
