RBI Governor Urjit Patel today faced tough questions from a parliamentary panel on bad loans, bank frauds, cash crunch and other issues even as he assured the members that steps were being taken to strengthen the system, sources said. Sources present at the meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance said the RBI Governor expressed confidence of tiding over the crisis regarding non-performing assets (NPAs). Some members of the committee, headed by senior Congress leader Veerappa Moily, sought to know about the reasons for recent instances of ATMs running out of cash and why enough steps were not taken to tackle banking frauds. SEBI asks HDFC Bank to strengthen internal systems

MUMBAI: The Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) has directed HDFC Bank to conduct an internal probe into the leakage of financial results before their disclosure to stock exchanges. The capital markets regulator has asked the country’s largest bank by market value to take action against those responsible for the leak and strengthen its internal processes. Sebi is investigating the leak of the bank's earnings, which were doing the rounds on WhatsApp groups, operated by market traders, before the results were announced. The regulator, in an order on Friday, asked HDFC Bank to investigate the role of persons with access to this information in the leaks.
