Jan. 11 (UPI) -- Eighteen civilians were killed Saturday by Syrian strikes in the region of Idlib, according to the White Helmets civil defense agency. The White Helmets tweeted that the Bashar al-Assad regime bombed the agency's building after attacking civilians with five airstrikes. Russian troops have begun patrols on the Syrian border to remove Kurdish fighters as part of an agreement with Turkey.The forces were seen heading towards the city of Kobane in northern Syria the day after Turkey and Russia agreed measures to remove Syrian Kurdish fighters from the border and jointly patrol the area. Kurdish-backed fighters for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have withdrawn from the border town of Ras al Ain following a Turkish offensive in northern Syria to establish a "safe zone".According to SDF spokesperson Kino Gabriel there are no more Kurdish fighters in the town, which last week was captured by Turkey-backed rebels.
