It's the smallest cat in the Americas, occupying the smallest area of land.Listed as vulnerable to extinction, the güiña wildcat of Chile has lost much of its natural home as forests are chopped down or converted to farmland.And, like many carnivores, it's at risk from human persecution over fears it might kill livestock.However, new research shows the animal is able to survive near human settlements on agricultural land.Its biggest threat is being squeezed out when land is broken up into smaller areas, say conservationists.The guiña is known variously as the little tiger cat, little spotted cat or Chilean cat. Jan. 17 (UPI) -- The first delivery of a combat-functional helicopter retrofit for France was announced this week by Airbus Helicopters.The aviation company said the first conversion of a Tiger helicopter from its original HAP version, with combat support capability, to HAD, or multirole combat use, has been delivered to the French military.The French Ministry of Defense has ordered 36 retrofits of its helicopters from HAP to HAD."We are pleased to have achieved this first delivery in accordance with the specifications of our customer," Alexandra Cros, head of governmental affairs France at Airbus Helicopters, said in a press release.The conversion involves more than 100 airframe modifications, and the installation of over 1,500 new parts and 250 electrical cables, the company said.The res...

Jan. 4 (UPI) --Tiger Woods announced that he will play in the 2018 Genesis Open and start his season with the 2018 Farmers Insurance Open.Woods made the declarations on Thursday. The Genesis Open is from Feb. 12 to Feb. 18 at the Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif. It will be Woods' first tournament at the course since 2006."I'm very excited to be back at Riviera," Woods said in a news release. "I haven't played at Riviera in a tournament in a very long time. Playing in his first competitive tournament since the Dubai Desert Classic last February, Woods carded a 3-under-par 69 Thursday in the opening round of the Hero World Challenge at Albany Golf Course in The Bahamas. Woods had five birdies against two bogeys during the round.
