Jan. 28 (UPI) -- Architects, a main contractor and a fire engineer on London's Grenfell Tower, destroyed in a 2017 fire that killed 72 people, knew the cladding system would fail in a fire, according to emails disclosed Tuesday. Craig Orr, an attorney for Celotex, which provided insulation used on the tower, disclosed the correspondence on the second day of the second phase of a public inquiry examining what led up to the disaster. British police said Thursday they have "reasonable grounds" to suspect that local authorities may have committed corporate manslaughter in a deadly high-rise fire in London. The Metropolitan Police force said it has officially informed the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea, which owns the Grenfell Tower public housing block, and the management group the Kensington and Chelsea Tenant Management Association that they are under suspicion. The news came in a letter from police sent to residents of the building. The letter said a senior representative of each body will be interviewed about the fire as part of the police investigation. June 18 (UPI) -- London Mayor Sadiq Khan on Sunday said the Grenfell Tower fire in which dozens died was a "preventable accident that didn't need to happen" caused by the "consequence of mistakes and neglect" from officials.The blaze occurred early Wednesday and later engulfed all floors above the second in the 24-story building that contained about 120 apartments in north Kensington.
