General Dynamics contracted for missile control systems for U.S., U.K.

Dec. 27 (UPI) -- General Dynamics Mission Systems has been awarded a $ 28 million contract for sustainment of weapons systems aboard U.S. and U.K. nuclear submarines. The contract, announced Wednesday by the Department of Defense, covers work on the fire control systems on both nation's submarines, as well as the attack weapon control system on U.S. subs. Additionally, the contract covers missile fire control for both the U.S. Columbia-class and U.K. Dreadnought-class common missile compartment program development and strategic weapon interface simulator. July 19 (UPI) -- British Secretary of State for Defense MP Gavin Williamson was joined by Australian Minister of Defense Marise Payne on a tour of BAE Systems Glasgow shipyard on Thursday. The visit concerned a discussion of the Australian SEA 5000 Future Frigates Program, and included a viewing of the new Type 26 Global Combat Ship Glasgow. Construction of the Glasgow started about a year ago, and the visit was only days after an announcement by the Australian Government that its nine anti-submarine Hunter-class frigates will be based on the U.K.'s new Type 26 design. May 5 (UPI) -- A British watchdog ordered Cambridge Analytica's data controller to turn over all information it's collected on American voters or face criminal prosecution.The U.K. Information Commissioner's Office, an independent authority, issued an enforcement notice to the consulting firm Friday, according to the Guardian.SCL Elections, a British affiliate data controller for Cambridge Analytica, has been ordered to comply or appeal the order within 30 days or it could face criminal prosecution.The ICO notice stems from David Carroll, an associate professor at Patterson School of Design in New York. June 22 (UPI) -- Leonardo and Hensoldt have received a joint $ 323 million contract from the British Ministry of Defense for upgrading Identification Friend or Foe systems.Leonardo and Hensoldt will be partnering on the program as "Team Skytale." The contract covers IFF upgrades fo 31 different vehicles used by the UK, including land, air, and sea platforms.The upgrade will convert the IFF systems of over 350 aircraft, ships, and ground-based air defense systems to the Mode 5 standard. All NATO nations are required to switch to the Mode 5 by 2020.The UK conversion will use Leonardo's M428 Transponder and SIT 2010 cryptographic computer, alongside Hensoldt's MSSR 2000 I and MSSR 1000 I interrogators.ILeonardo has already installed Mode 5 IFF systems on Britain's Eurofighter Typhoons and Que...
