April 17 (UPI) -- The Chicago Bears parted ways with veteran tight end Trey Burton after only two seasons, the team announced Friday. Burton, 28, signed a four-year deal with the Bears before the 2018 season that contained $ 22 million in guarantees, according to Spotrac. Burton played only eight games last season because of a season-ending calf injury. He also underwent hip surgery to address a labrum issue in December. He finished the 2019 season with only 14 catches for 84 yards and no touchdowns. Despite the recent hip procedure, Burton is expected to be ready before training camp, according to ESPN. Oct. 1 (UPI) -- The Houston Texans signed veteran safety Mike Adams, who recently worked out for the team, to a contract, the club announced Tuesday. The Texans waived tight end Jerell Adams in a corresponding roster move, according to the team. Houston also signed safety Jonathan Owens to the practice squad and released offensive tackle Christian DiLauro and safety Austin Exford from the practice squad. Adams, who turned 38 in March, started all 32 regular-season games for the Carolina Panthers across the last two seasons after joining the franchise in 2017. Adams, a two-time Pro Bowl selection with the Indianapolis Colts, entered the league with the San Francisco 49ers in 2004 as an undrafted free agent out of Delaware. April 6 (UPI) -- With a number of big injuries on their roster, the New York Yankees signed veteran infielder Cliff Pennington on Saturday. The team announced the signing and sent Pennington to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to get playing time, and he is expected to join the roster soon. Friday, he played for the RailRiders and went 1-for-3 against the Buffalo Bisons. The move was made after the team lost infielders Miguel Andujar, Troy Tulowitzki and Didi Gregorius to injuries, which left the team needing help. Overall the Yankees have 11 players on the injured list. Pennington spent the 2018 season with the Cincinnati Reds and Texas Rangers, but mostly played in the minors, spending 16 games with the Reds at the Major League level. The Jacksonville Jaguars need a running back, so they signed veteran Jamaal Charles to a one-year contract, the team announced Tuesday. The Jaguars have been hit hard by injuries at the running back position. Regular starter Leonard Fournette is out indefinitely because of a right hamstring injury. T.J. Yeldon, the No. 2 back, has been playing with an ankle injury. Corey Grant, the No. 3 running back, was placed on injured reserve with a Lisfranc injury in his left foot. The 31-year-old Charles played 14 games for the Denver Broncos last season, but did not start any of them. Aug. 11 (UPI) -- The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed cornerbacks Kenneth Acker and Bryce Canady, while cutting two other cornerbacks. Jacksonville announced the roster moves on Saturday. The Jaguars released fifth-year cornerback Dexter McDougle and waived first-year cornerback Charlie Miller in corresponding moves. Acker, 26, played in all 16 games last season for the Kansas City Chiefs. He totalled 19 tackles and had an interception, a pass defensed and a forced fumble in those appearances. The SMU product had 35 tackles, four passes defensed, an interception and a fumble recovery in 25 appearances in his two seasons with the Chiefs.
