The New York Giants waived running back Paul Perkins, the team announced Thursday. The move was expected after Perkins underwent surgery for a non-football injury and New York's subsequent decision to draft Penn State running back Saquon Barkley with the No. 2 overall pick in last month's NFL Draft. Perkins suffered a pectoral injury prior to the start of the team's offseason program. The Giants did not offer a timeline for a return to football activities following the surgery. A fifth-round draft pick out of UCLA in 2016, Perkins had 112 carries for 456 yards and 15 catches for 162 yards during his rookie season in the same year. Nov. 18 (UPI) -- The Miami Dolphins have promoted practice squad running back De'Veon Smith.Miami also waived linebacker Rey Maualuga. The Dolphins announced the moves Saturday.Smith, 23, signed with the Dolphins on May 5 as an undrafted college free agent. The 5 foot 11, 221 pound running back had 35 yards on 12 carries this preseason for the Dolphins. The University of Michigan product had 2,235 yards and 22 touchdowns on 495 carries during his four-year tenure with the Wolverines.Maualuga, 30, entered the NFL as a second round pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in the 2009 NFL Draft. The 6 foot 1, 254 pound defender joined the Dolphins on Aug. 19. Maualuga had 23 tackles in six games this season. Carolina Panthers sign WR T.J. Graham, waive Charles Johnson

July 25 (UPI) -- The Carolina Panthers have made some changes on their depth chart at wide receiver after signing T.J. Graham and waiving Charles Johnson.Carolina signed Graham on Monday. The 27-year-old was a third round pick by the Buffalo Bills in the 2012 NFL Draft. Graham played two seasons in Buffalo before signing with the New York Jets in 2014. He suited up for the New Orleans Saints in 2015.Graham has 794 yards and four touchdowns on 61 career receptions. He played collegiately at North Carolina State. He played last season for the Montreal Alouettes of the Canadian Football League.
