Dec. 18 (UPI) -- The UCLA Bruins and Washington Huskies joined a growing list of college football programs that have opted out of postseason play due to the COVID-19 pandemic. UCLA said Thursday it will decline any bowl game invitation this postseason. The decision was made by players on the team and supported by athletic director Martin Jarmond, head coach Chip Kelly and the school's athletic department. Washington halts football activities due to COVID-19, Oregon game in doubt

Dec. 9 (UPI) -- The University of Washington has paused football team activities due to an increase in positive COVID-19 cases within the program, the school said Wednesday. "The team will not practice Wednesday and will undergo additional polymerase chain reaction (PCR) testing," the Huskies said in a statement. Advertisement The Huskies are scheduled to play Oregon at 4 p.m. EST Saturday in Eugene, Ore. The winner of the game will decide which team wins the Pac-12's North Division and appears in the Dec. 18 conference championship game. Washington said more information regarding that status of the scheduled game against Oregon will be shared "when it becomes available." Sept. 25 (UPI) -- The Washington Nationals and manager Dave Martinez have reached an agreement on a multiyear contract extension. League sources told ESPN and USA Today Sports on Friday that Martinez agreed to a three-year extension worth about $ 7.5 million. The team has yet to confirm the agreement. Advertisement Martinez had an option on his contract for the 2021 season, but the new deal will replace that and keep him with the Nationals organization through the 2023 season.
