The BBC is to increase diversity by investing £100m of its TV budget over a three year period to produce "diverse and inclusive content".Director general Tony Hall has described the move, which will apply from April 2021, as "a big leap".The BBC has set itself a mandatory target - 20% of off-screen talent must come from under-represented groups.That includes those with a disability or from a BAME or disadvantaged socio-economic background.'The stain of systemic racism'There will also be three "tests" for diversity in the BBC's TV output, with programmes needing to meet two of them to qualify - diverse stories and portrayal on-screen, diverse production teams and talent and diverse-led production companies.The announcement follows...

April 24 (UPI) -- Today, the Sahara is one of the most unforgiving places on Earth. It is hot, barren and host to blinding dust storms. More than 100 million years ago, the Sahara was equally dangerous -- the most dangerous place on the planet, new research suggests -- but for much different reasons. Recent excavations of Cretaceous rock formations in southeastern Morocco have revealed the remains of dozens of ferocious predator species, including flying reptiles and crocodile-like carnivores. The remains belong to portion of the fossil record that paleontologist call the Kem Kem Group. At the beginning of the Late Cretaceous period, 100 million years ago, the Sahara was home to a vast river system, providing habitats for a diversity of terrestrial and aquatic species. Feb. 7 (UPI) -- Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Homeland Security officials announced Friday that they will be stepping up efforts to screen travelers arriving in the United States for the 2019 novel coronavirus. In addition, President Donald Trump's Novel Coronavirus Task Force indicated that the administration has allocated $ 100 million in foreign aid to outbreak response in China and other affected countries, Stephen Biegun, deputy Secretary of State said during a press briefing.
