April 17 (UPI) -- The Chicago Bears parted ways with veteran tight end Trey Burton after only two seasons, the team announced Friday. Burton, 28, signed a four-year deal with the Bears before the 2018 season that contained $ 22 million in guarantees, according to Spotrac. Burton played only eight games last season because of a season-ending calf injury. He also underwent hip surgery to address a labrum issue in December. He finished the 2019 season with only 14 catches for 84 yards and no touchdowns. Despite the recent hip procedure, Burton is expected to be ready before training camp, according to ESPN. Chicago Cubs host Colorado Rockies in NL Wild Card Game

Sports
CHICAGO -- In the matter of just a few hours Monday, the Chicago Cubs went from being tied for the best record in the National League to finding themselves playing for their baseball lives on Tuesday. Despite that, however, they are just glad to still be alive. The Cubs will look to extend their season on Tuesday when they host the NL Wild Card Game against the Colorado Rockies at Wrigley Field. Chicago (95-68) missed on a chance to host the NLD when they lost to the Milwaukee Brewers 3-1 on Monday in the one-game tiebreaker for the Central Division title. Instead, they will host the Rockies (91-72), who dropped a 5-2 decision to the Los Angeles Dodgers in Monday's other divisional tiebreaker. Chicago Cubs hope Cole Hamels can be stopper vs. Cincinnati Reds

Sports
CHICAGO -- When the Chicago Cubs traded for Cole Hamels, they figured the veteran starter would add depth to their rotation as they dealt with the uncertainty of Yu Darvish's return. But after the Cubs shut Darvish down for the season earlier this week and with Chicago's offense freshly breaking out of a slump heading into Thursday's series-opener against the Cincinnati Reds at Wrigley Field, Hamels' impressive start to his time with the Cubs may be even more valuable than originally expected. Hamels has allowed just two earned runs in his four Cubs' starts combined and has posted wins in three of his four outings. Now, with the Cubs having lost three of their last four games, getting another steady performance out of Hamels (8-9, 4.00 ERA) on Thursday may just be what the Cubs need as ...
