New York Jets claim former Ravens, Vikings kicker Kaare Vedvik

Sept. 1 (UPI) -- The New York Jets acquired kicker Kaare Vedvik on waivers from the Minnesota Vikings, the team announced Sunday. The Jets also waived kicker Taylor Bertolet as the team rounded out the 53-man roster. New York originally expressed interest in trading for Vedvik a few weeks ago, but the Baltimore Ravens traded him to the Vikings for a fifth-round draft pick. Vedvik struggled with the Vikings and the team ultimately opted to part ways with the Norwegian-born kicker. He converted only one of his four field-goal attempts in two games with Minnesota, missing from 37, 43 and 54 yards. His lone make came from 27 yards. Former Oakland Raiders kicker Sebastian Janikowski to retire after 19 seasons

April 28 (UPI) -- Former Oakland Raiders and Seattle Seahawks kicker Sebastian Janikowski is retiring from the NFL after 19 seasons. Janikowski, 41, told ESPN on Sunday that his body couldn't handle another season in the league. "It was a good run," Janikowski said. "I still think of the Super Bowl -- it still hurts." Janikowski and the Raiders lost 48-21 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl XXXVII during the 2002-03 season. The Raiders originally selected Janikowski in the first round (No. 17 overall) in the 2000 NFL Draft. The kicker's retirement leaves New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady as the last remaining active player from the 2000 draft class. Nick Folk: Tampa Bay Buccaneers cut veteran kicker

Feb. 22 (UPI) -- The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released veteran kicker Nick Folk.Tampa Bay announced the move on Thursday afternoon. Folk, 33, made 6-of-11 kick attempts last season in four games for the Buccaneers. The 11-year veteran also missed two extra point attempts.Folk was a sixth round pick in the 2007 NFL Draft by the Dallas Cowboys.He was a Pro Bowl selection during his rookie campaign after making 26-of-31 attempts and completing 53-of-53 extra point attempts. Folk joined the New York Jets in 2010, before signing with the Buccaneers last offseason. He led the NFL with 39 field goal attempts in 2014.Folk was cleared to resume kicking two weeks ago after undergoing surgery last season on his left knee.
