Kim Jong Un has ‘great and beautiful vision’ for N Korea – Trump

By Alan McGuinness, news reporter Donald Trump has claimed that recent North Korean missile tests do not breach an agreement between Washington and Pyongyang - as he said Kim Jong Un has a "great and beautiful vision for his country".In a series of messages on Twitter, the US president said the launches may be in breach of United Nations resolutions, but not a deal the pair agreed at an historic meeting last year. Mr Trump said: "These missiles tests are not a violation of our signed Singapore agreement, nor was there discussion of short range missiles when we shook hands. ...

A £20bn investment is needed if the government is to achieve its vision of a science-led economy, according to a new analysis. The Campaign for Science and Engineering (Case) is calling for the boost in UK science funding to avoid the risk of "stagnation".The UK currently ranks 23rd in its R&D spending as a proportion of GDP. Case said now was the time for the government to set out details of its plan."The government has set out a bold vision for UK science," said executive director, Dr Sarah Main."It is a potentially transformative one for the entire country. Researchers restore vision in rats after retinal cell transplant

Nov. 5 (UPI) -- Transplanted fetal retina cells successfully restored vision in blind rats by restoring neurons in the vision centers of their brains. Researchers at the University of California, Irvine School of Medicine found that sheets of fetal cells integrated into the retina -- which is in back of the eye -- can generate nearly normal visual activity in their brains. The findings were published Monday in JNeurosci, the Journal of Neuroscience. "It's been known that retinal sheet transplants can integrate into the degenerated eyes and allow the animals to detect light," Dr. David Lyon, associate professor of anatomy and neurobiology at UCI School of Medicine, said in a press release. "But, beyond rudimentary light detection it was not known how well the visual system in the brain fun...

Kentucky cuts vision, dental care for up to 460,000 people

Gov. Matt Bevin's administration cut dental and vision coverage for as many as 460,000 Kentuckians after his Medicaid overhaul plan was rejected in court. The state Cabinet for Health and Family Services called the cuts an "unfortunate consequence" of Friday's ruling by a federal judge. Democrats and advocates for the poor condemned the Republican governor's move as rash and possibly illegal. The cuts were announced during the weekend. U.S. District Judge James E. Boasberg's rejection of Bevin's plan to overhaul the state's Medicaid program was also a setback for President Donald Trump's administration, which has been encouraging states to impose work requirements and other changes on the joint state and federal health insurance program for poor and disabled people. Boasberg's ruling blo...

Kentucky GOP cuts dental, vision for nearly 500,000 people

Gov. Matt Bevin's administration is cutting dental and vision coverage for nearly a half-million Kentuckians after his Medicaid overhaul plan was rejected in court. The state Cabinet for Health and Family Services calls the cuts an "unfortunate consequence" of Friday's ruling by a federal judge who said Kentucky can't require poor people to get jobs to keep their Medicaid benefits. U.S. District Judge James E. Boasberg's rejection of the Republican governor's plan to overhaul the state's Medicaid program is a setback for President Donald Trump's administration, which has been encouraging states to impose limits on the state and federal health insurance program for the poor and disabled. Cabinet spokesman Doug Hogan squarely blames the judge, saying the "optional services" will be restore...
